SUMMER TRAVELS

As we transition from summer to autumn, the inevitable question arises, "What did you do on your summer vacation?" That seems to be the theme that weaves its way into all of the articles in this issue.

First, Yogamaya Doe Wails went to Boulder, Colorado in June to attend the LOHAS Forum 12, a gathering of the sustainability-minded folks who are convinced that capitalism is not the cause of the world's problems but can indeed be the solution. The power of the choices we make with our pocketbook can and do have a profound impact on the planet.

Next, Mike Krajovic traveled to Boston in June for the national BALLE conference. Here again, we see the power of the pocketbook in action, but this time the focus is on buying local products and services from people in your community rather than a big box retailer peddling products primarily made overseas. By keeping our dollars within the community, we can have a profound impact on our local economy.

Then, our new Sales Manager Lani Redinger went off to DC in July for two events in one weekend. By 'coincidence', indie rock icon Ani DiFranco was playing a concert the very same weekend that Amma, The Hugging Saint, was holding darshan. To us, Lani represents the next generation in the consciousness revolution that is shifting our planet. Those of you who have dealt with her know what a fresh and vibrant energy she brings to our publication. It was a delight for us to read her account of being with one of her early major influences, followed by a literal hug from a powerful representative of the Feminine Divine. The shift in consciousness we are seeing is a shift towards a more nurturing, more feminine way of viewing the world. After reading about her summer vacation, we think you'll agree with us that with young women like Lani stepping up to take their place in leading the revolution, the world should be in good hands.

Many of us wouldn't think of traveling without our furry companions. If you have a canine family member, you will definitely want to get a copy of the new book by one of our favorite veterinarians, Dr. Doug Knueven. The Holistic Health Guide: Natural Care for the Whole Dog is an amazing and comprehensive reference manual. We are delighted to have an excerpt from it in this issue, part of his chapter on nutrition for dogs. After reading it, you'll never look at dog food the same again.

We also like to keep you abreast of the latest developments in integrated and energy medicine, so we asked Gina Mazza Hillier to take an unbiased look at the ETA-Scan technology being used by Dr. Dan Wagner of Nutri-Farmacy in Gibsonia. Dr. Dan has always been on the leading edge of integrated medicine, and has for years spent many of his summers leading grad students to the far corners of the globe to learn about the healing power of plants from indigenous people. Now he is one of the first in this country to begin using a tool that has become popular in Europe, a computer that interfaces with the human energy field.

So whether your travels this summer took you to a mind-opening conference, an indigenous tribe or a rock concert, we hope that your life and the lives of your family and friends are richer and more whole because of them. We know our lives are, just for having read these tales.
